Dear pipe enthusiasts,
At the beginning of this year I was lucky enough to purchase some very good quality Italian Plateau briar, very good quality indeed. I bought 30 blocks, 6 remain, sandpits, blemishes and tiny flaws have taken the others. But don’t worry they won’t be wasted.
The pipes you see are larger than your average pipe and are naked raw briar, they have been individually shaped and sanded until perfectly smooth, the stems are hand cut from acrylic and have been married to the shank, the fit is also perfect. The reason I have left them naked is to show you how beautiful briar is in its true form, not coloured with stain or decorated in any way (nothing to hide). I do not object to applying some wax to the briar to extenuate the grain, but I won’t stain them.
I wish I could say that its been cost effective to deliver these 6 but it hasn’t, what I can assure you is that I have enjoyed every minute and aspect of there development, great fun. As I say I have only managed 6 in 2010 and they will be gold stamped, Handmade, Invicta, England 1 to 6. Maybe there will be an opportunity to have another bash next year but that depends on if I have the time and can get my hands on such wonderful quality briar.
Lastly I know they are expensive for most of you but those that know there pipes will also respect that they could grace any collection would probably be two to three times the price of other lets say, better known pipe manufacturers. My only worry is a continuing one, that my photo’s will certainly not do these beautiful pipes justice which is why if you decide to purchase one and find that’s its not to you’re complete satisfaction you will be fully refunded.
